Our Approach

We’ve built meaningful and successful client relationships by being consistent with our approach, but we’re also flexible enough to pivot when appropriate. If you have circumstances or requirements that are unique to your business, start by letting us know!

  • We believe in a two-part discovery process (which includes a kick-off and a guaranteed follow-up), rather than trying to icebreak and inquire within the same conversation. This allows us to be more thoughtful as we familiarize with who you are as a business, where you’d like your growth to be headed, and what financial challenges you’ve encountered along the way.

    We will ask direct questions — but only because we dislike assumptions, and because we care.

  • In order to provide you with an accurate quote based on an appropriate scope of work, we will perform a small-scale assessment of your existing accounting setup and your financials to-date. Rest assured that we’ll only review what’s absolutely necessary to determine what’s already working well, what could be done differently, and what might need to stop altogether.

  • We don’t force fits, but we always celebrate the ones we do find. Onboarding will involve a mindful amount of async and in-sync “homework” as we settle in and learn your routines.

    (This is especially true if your newfound partnership with us means transitioning away from another provider.)

  • We use our meetings, calls, emails and Slack messages wisely, because we respect your time just as much as our own. That being said, we also understand the incomparable value of face-to-face time, live collaboration, and basic human connection.

    Depending on your communication style, we can do casual touchpoints, structured check-ins, or something else in between.

  • We use a combination of Zoom, Google Meet, Slack and email to stay in close sync with our clients. Leaning into virtual communication means greater flexibility across time zone challenges, and lower costs for both parties.

    (Although we’re headquartered in Toronto, we’re currently unable to offer in-person meetings.)

  • Candidly, it would be inaccurate of us to suggest even a ballpark figure, because each business is unique, and our scopes of work are always tailored to fit. We strongly advocate for our discovery process, as that’s the best way to appropriately match our capabilities to your needs.

    Though our team truly shines when given the opportunity to take over services at both the accounting and controllership level, we’ll never insist on anything that doesn’t reflect your best interests.

    Lastly, we like to keep things simple by operating on a monthly retainer, which means zero surprises for you and your cash flow.

  • Outside of account onboarding, predetermined meetings and client-initiated support requests, we only ask for an hour of async time per month. This is typically used to fill in any information gaps that we don’t have adequate context around, or even access to.

  • Funny you should ask — almost all of our clients have needed a scope realignment at some point during their business journey.
